The AAF purchased Beechcraft's "Beech D-18" as a light transport. The transport was designated the C-45 and saw service with the Military Air Transport Service (MATS). MATS operated in the ZOI in accordance with civil flight rules. The Navy also purchased this transport and operated jointly with the AAF in the MATS. |

Both services also adapted the aircraft as a trainer. The Navy's version was designated the SNB-1, which is photographed here. The USAAF had three variants: the AT-7 "Navigator," AT-10 and the AT-11 "Kansan." The Navigator, as the name implies, was designed with several navigator workstations and used to train navigators. The Kansan was used as a bombardier/gunner trainer. Pilots were first trained in the AT-6 "Texan," which was a single engine aircraft. Some pilots would then make the transition to multi-engine aircraft with the AT-10 variant. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
