Top turret. The B17 top turret gunner stood in the mechanism and used foot pedals to train the turret in azimuth. |
The ball turret was operated by the use of foot pedals. The gunner sat in a reclined position with his feet raised above the guns. The gunner had 360ö of motion in azimuth and 0ö to -90ö in elevation. The faceplate was unarmored plexiglas 13" in diameter. (click on picture for more photos) |
The Cheyenne turret was not powered. The gun and turret were mounted on a swivel. Not clearly seen here is bullet resistant glass plate in front of the gunner. (click on picture for more photos) |
