OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE NARRATIVE, MISSION CHEMNITZ
GERMANY, 24 FEBRUARY 194 - 486 "A," "B" AND "C" GROUPS.

1. Leaflets:

None

2. Bombing results:

Secondary target, Chemnitz was bombed by Squadrons using PFF technique. Squadron was surrounded by clouds over the target at bombs away. Results were unobserved.

3. Enemy Aircraft:

None

4. Flak:

Meager accurate tracking flak was over battle area on route out.
meager accurate tracking flak at IDSTEIN.

5. Weather:

3/10 to 10/10 over most of route and 10/10 over target area.

6. Observations:

At 1340 hours, 5022N-0950E (23,000') 2 P-51s strafed a freight train, train was stopped and was burning.
At 1300 hours, 5021N-1212E (22,000') a P-51 strafed a locomotive causing it to explode.
At 1608 hours, Ostend (6,000') two or three explosions and a huge fires [sic] and a lot of black smoke, believed to be oil fires, were observed in dock area at Ostend. Explosions could be heard plainly by flying crews. Boats were moving out of the harbor away from the fire.

7. Other information:

Fighter support was good.
