BRIEFING NOTES OF MISSIONS 9 MARCH 1945

 

1ST DIVISION – 536 A/C WERE AIRBORNE OF WHICH 324 A/C ATTACKED KASSEL M/Y AND LOCOMOTIVE REPAIR DEPOT AND WORKSHOPS VISUALLY WITH GOOD TO VERY GOOD RESULTS.  WEATHER WAS CAVU 00 2/10 OVER TARGET.  FLAK WAS MODERATE TO INTESNSE AND FAIRLY ACCURATE.  BATTLE DAMAGE 37 MINOR, 31 MAJOR.  NO E/A ATTACKS.  NO CLAIMS,  3 A/C WERE LOST 2 TO AA AND 1 FOR REASONS UNKNOWN.

 

2ND DIVISION – 293 A/C WERE AIRBORNE OF WHICH 103 A/C ATTACKED MUNSTER M/Y – GH AND H2X WITH VISUAL ASSISTS WITH FROM UNOBSERVED TO FAIR RESULTS.  93 A/C ATTACKED RHEINE M/Y – GH AND H2X WITH VISUAL ASSISTS WITH UNOBSERVED TO GOOD RESULTS.  93 A/C ATTACKED OSNABRUCK M/Y – GH AND H2X WITH VISUAL ASSISTS WITH UNOBSERVED TO GOOD RESULTS.  WEATHER WAS 6/10 TO 8/10 WITH BREAKS OVER TARGETS.  FLAK WAS MEAGER TO MODERATE AND GENERALLY INACCURATE (BATTLE DAMAGE 51 MINOR 1 MAJOR).  NO E/A ATTACKS.  NO CLAIMS.  2 A/C WERE LOST 1 TO AA AND 1 FOR REASONS UNKNOWN.

 

3RD DIVISION – 429 A/C WERE AIRBORNE OF WHICH 156 A/C ATTACKED FRANKFURT OST M/Y VISUALLY WITH VERY GOOD RESULTS,  222 A/C ATTACKED FRANKFURT (CENTRAL) M/Y – MH, H2X, AND VISUALLY WITH UNOBSERVED TO VERY GOOD RESULTS,  38 A/C ATTACKED FRANKFURT/HEDDERHEIM (JUMO WKS) VISUALLY WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS.  WEATHER WAS 5/10 TO 8/10 WITH LARGE BREAKS OVER TARGETS.  FLAK WAS MODERATE TO INTENSE AND ACCURATE.  (BATTLE DAMAGE 144 MINOR, 38 MAJOR) 12 FW 190’S WERE SIGTHED CLIMBING THRU A HOLE IN CLUDS NE OF HANAU, 1 ME 262 OBSERVED OVER FRANKFURT AND 1 ME 262 OBSERVED SW OF FULDA.  NO ATTACKS.  NO CLAIMS.  4 A/C WERE LOST 2 TO AA AND 2 FOR REASONS UNKNOWN.

 

FIGHTERS – 401 A/C WERE AIRBORNE AS ESCORT AND ON SWEEPS TO BOMBER OPERATIONS.  ONLY ONE E/A AND ME 262 WAS ENCOUNTERED OVER GIEBELSTADT äD FOR CLAIMS OF 0-0-1.  NO GROUD STRAFING WAS DONE.  NO A/C WERE LOST.
