Dakota. SGT Netzel was transferred to Italy before the crew had their first mission [Note: Netzel actually flew combat on six missions before being transferred in September 44]. On November 30, 1944, their plane was shot down over Merseberg, Germany. All of the crew bailed out over Belgium and eventually were returned to their base in England. |
