Enjoy the Web Site very much. See yall in Oct.
What a great site. I knew the airfield intimately as a kid in the early Seventies; my grandparents owned one of the white bungalows just west of Hangar 2, and I used to spend happy weekends and summer holidays cycling round the perimeter track, and what was left of the main runway, imagining I was a B17 pilot! My Dad and uncle used to talk of their boyhood memories, watching over the garden fence - overlooking the hardstands in the south west corner of the field - as the planes came back from missions during '44 - 45. I've always had a strong affection for Suffolk (Most of my family still live there), and a deep admiration for the men of the 8th Air Force, who flew from bases in that county, thousands of miles from their homes, and fought and died over the skies of occupied Europe.
I was born almost exactly 20 years after the 486th first arrived in Sudbury, but I can't see a B17 without getting a lump in my throat, and because of my family's proximity to Station 174, I've always had a real soft spot for the 486th - they're our unit! Well done for putting together a moving, fascinating site. I shall return to it often.

Great to see this site up on the web. My Dad is Larry D. Workman, Radio Operatoron Bob Lowe's B17 crew. Dad is still living, but refuses to use the internet, so I'd be glad to make a connection for anyone interested. Again, thanks for putting this site up.
Fantastic site. As a resident of Great Waldingfield,Sudbury, I live about half a mile from the station. I am keen to learn all I can about the history of Station 174 and its personnel. There are anumber of other sites around the station that I'd like to define and record.I wouls also like to join the Group Association.

Jeffrey Stanchek, son of Staff Sgt. Louis J. Stanchek;side gunner of Plane 762, 834 squadron, Scorpio's. Thank you for the work of ensuring the legacy of the greatest generation America has produced.
I am looking for information on Raymond F. Peters Co-piolot on a B-24
I found this website by doing a search for my father's name: Burton Needell. Your site has him, correctly, as Burton P. Needell; the P was for Peter. My older brother, Mark, has all of what remains of our father's papers and photographs, so I cannot provide more identifying material. I would be very much obliged if any survivors of the group can tell me of anything related to my father's experience of the war. He shared a great deal with us when we were kids, but he died in 1972, long before I could ask the questions I would like to ask now.
Great site! I've discovered a lot about my cousin, SGT Edward G. Geron, died 26 Apr 45 on tail #687, flying a training mission with pilot Clyde Simmons. Ed is buried in Cambridge Military Cemetery. His missions prior to the midair on 26 Apr were on Williamson's crew, "Coaltown Express", tail #311. Perhaps I'll be lucky and hear from someone who flew or knew my cousin. God bless all of you who served our great country! Respectfully, John D. Geron, Major USAF, Retired 1976

I was delighted to discover the web site preserving the memory of the men who flew the heavy bombers in the 486th bomb group. My father Howard P. Cooper was a pilot. I sent a picture of his crew to the webmaster*486th.org. I hope that I might hear from some of the crew.
