These photos are taken in '45, and show the late war markings of the 486th Bomb Group. The empannage was painted yellow, with 3 24" stripes around the waist. Each separated by 12". A 48" thick chevron was painted on the right dorsal wing surface, and left ventral wing surface. This chevron was painted blue on the outside leg and red on the inside leg. The chevron colors, and the waist bands denoted the group. The Yellow Tail represented the 4th Combat bombardment wing. The squadron was identified by a 36" colored band behind the bombardier's bubble, and a colored letter on the fuselage.
