P47 Thunderbolt. "P" stood for "Pursuit" while "F" meant "Foto". During the Korean War, fighters were redesignated "F". The markings are Operation Overlord markings referred to as Quick Identification Markings (QIM). This gave added insurance that ground units wouldn't mistake friendly aircraft for German. The P47 was also referred to as the "Jug". Some sources indicate this was short for Juggernaut, while others claim the name refers to it's appearance.
