833RD BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON
History for November 1944
.:. And in November the rains came, the winds blew, and G.I. Joe perceived the advent of a British winter. Long handles and Parka jackets became as popular as a Hyde Park Ranger after a G.I. pay day. Since, however, the period merged rather slowly in- to the second of third phase winter, the transition was made without undue loss of squadron personnel to the Quack Shack. As a means of keeping combat crew personnel in "fightin" trim, the "pill-rollers" strongly advocated the use of Sulfa-diazine - the innocent looking white tablet which so many suspect of being Po- tassium Nitrate (saltpeter). The Medics vehemently deny this accu- sation and claim certain records could be produced that would ren- der any such claims as irrelevant. As a result of poor weather, the Group ran only 11 missions during the month against Der Fuehrer's super-race; the squadron proving itself the work horse of the outfit by participation in 10 of the 11 contests. This ran the squadron's missions to a total of 96. Three ships, and two crews of nine men each are missing from these raids. Second Lieutenant Rapp and crew distinguished them- selves on the raid to Wiesbaden, Germany, on November 10th by being chosen the crew of the week. The operational citation reads as follows:
