AN EIGHTH AIR FORCE BOMBER STATION, England--"Back Home In Indiana" was the key note of the evening when the Red Cross social center of this Eighth Air Force B-17 Flying Fortress base recently held Indiana night. Three Indiana G.I.'s and two Red Cross workers celebrated "old home week". Staff Sergeant Robert D. Young, 25, of Connersville, an instrument mechanic; Sergeant William C. Morris, 28, of Evansville, a Medical worker; and Private Leonard Quinlan, 23, of Branchville, driver of the wing commander's personal car, were the Indiana soldiers at the gathering. Red Cross club women who sponsored the event are Miss Jean L. St. Clair of College Park, Md., whose father, Bert St. Clair, comes from Veedersburg, and Miss Mary Parsons, of Bloomfield. The two young women are joint club directors at the Red Cross social center of the base, the "Aero Club". Miss Parsons' father, Robert F. Parsons, lives in Bloomfield. Before she entered the American Red Cross in June, 1944, she was employed as a tax clerk by the Shell Oil Company of New York City. Miss Jean St. Clair is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She entered the American Red Cross in June, 1943, before which time she was a school teacher. The evening was a great success with Indiana songs and all of the old familiar "did you know so and so's." Apple pie was served with a healthy scoop of ice cream on top. The club was decorated with a cabaret effect--the only lights being candles. -30-
