At a staff meeting on November 10, Colonel Overing announced that the 92nd Wing and the 4th Wing were being merged to form the 4th Bombardment Wing (Provisional). It was also said that this new wing would be the first in the Division to move when the transfer to the Orient started. It is probable that a large part of the personnel on the Base knew about it, or at least heard a garbled account, the same day.

The new wing is located near Bury St. Edmund's which fact, it was discovered, made a considerable difference. It was discovered, if it were not known already, that there were certain conveniences connected with having the wing on the same Base. For instance, it was possible to get the target for a mission sooner than by waiting for it to come through on the teletype. Vacating the site occupied by the 92nd Wing and the quarters occupied by its personnel provided decided relief for our housing problem. The training section moved its headquarters to the wing site where class rooms were provided. The Combat Crew Library and the Public Relations office were moved to more commodious quarters there and the Special Service office is located in the same building. The group had to give up several of its key personnel to the new wing.

The ambitious program of training aids and class rooms, previously begun, was completed during the month. The enlargement of the bomb dump, however, could not be completed because the Corps of Engineers who had provided us with heavy, labor saving machinery, were sent to France.
