SUBJECT: History of S-4 and Engineering Sections.
TO : Base Historian, AAF Station 174, APO 559.
1. During the month of November in spite of adverse weather conditions, eleven missions were flown and due to the fact that the airplanes are getting old and that most of the missions were deep in Germany we hit an all-time high on engine changes. We changed a total of fifty-nine (59) engines, the majority of which failed due to age and overboost. The old story of high battle damage still held true also such as the raid of November 30th, when damage on planes returning was 100%. 2. The supply functions for the month of November were at their best as far as co-operation from the various supply units of the base. The Quartermaster Company did a notably fine job in shipping back equipment that was requested by higher command.
