Day of Rememberence 10 November 2013, Little Waldingfield, Suffolk, at St Lawrence Church. |
Today in the village of Little Waldingfield, for the first time, villagers laid a wreath to the 486th Bombardment Group. The wreath was laid by Mrs Coodie Sparkes a lady of 93, who in 1944/45 with her husband, ran the White Horse Public House at the same time as young American servicemen from the airfield would visit for their pint of 'warm beer'. Coodie remembers the airmen fondly, especially George Sherlock, Frank Tysl and M L Kirkpatrick (P-40) who remained friends well after the war had ended.
