What a wonderful tribute to the brave people that served the U.S. during WWII. I have heard so many stories over the years and enjoyed alot of the pictures. My brother wrote about having pictures and information regarding my father's (William A. Roberts, Jr.) bomb group.

Does anyone remember a nurse named Hilda Tydewell (or Tidewell) from England? If anyone has information on any of the nurses, I would appreciate addresses if you have them.

Thank you.

My father is looking to get in contact with members of his old crew. He flew with the 832nd sguadron of the 486th as a radio operator on Lang's from Dec. 1944/March 45 the name of the plane was the HO 7 which was lost over Europe a few missions after his crew completed their tour. Any info or pictures would greatly be appreciated Thanks the son of Paul J. Covington

Really enjoy this site. My Father, Robert Eugene Slifer, was a tailgunner on both B-17s and B24s and was stationed in Sudbury. Before he died in 1993 we visited the old base in Sudbury and the museum in Norwich. He was very touched by it - who wouldn't be deeply touched when such a hig-intensity experience shaped your life at the age of 18 or 19. His plane was the "Big Friend" but I do not know what squadron he was in. I would like to find out more, so if you have any suggestions for finding out more info, please let me know. Thanks so much for preserving the memory and honor of so many who made so great a sacrifice. I would be interested in corresponding with vets about their experiences during and after the war. (I have been in the US Army and worked as a DoD civilian in Germany since 1984. We lived in Heidelberg (near Mannheim) Wurzburg (20 miles south of Schweinfurt, and Hohenfels (30 min west of Regensberg) - all of which you have certainly heard of before. I think you would find it very interesting to visit - there are still many very pro-American Germans here. One of the best supporters of the US Army is the man who owns all of the ball bearing factories in Schweinfurt. Anyway, great visiting this site. I sent the link to my son, Danny, who is a bombardier in the 9th Bomb Squadron (B-1b) at Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX. He is proud of his grandfather and his military heritage.

PURPOSE----I seek your direction regarding how I might obtain information about the WWII 8th USAAF service flights of my father, Ary Max Richburg. Perhaps you can direct me to a USAAF 8th group in which Dad might have served and I might locate one of his flight buddies. Unfortunately, his service records were destroyed in the St. Louis facility fire.

FACTS----Ary Max Richburg (AO 771 248; AF 14 091 235) * was born 11/14/15 in Luverne, AL, * enlisted in the Enlisted Reserve Corps 06/12/42, * was called to active duty 01/20/43, * received his pilot training at Merced AFB CA, * was appointed Second Lieutenant 03/12/44, * served in England with the 8th USAAF as a B-17 pilot, * was promoted to First Lieutenant 03/11/45, * was appointed Captain, Air Corps Reserve 11/13/47, and * died from a cerebral hemorrhage (diffused subarachnoid hemorrhage) 09/11/55 in Nouasseur, French Morocco. I lived with my Mother, now deceased, in Lockhart, AL, when Dad died; I was age10. USAF1947-1955 service facts do not appear pertinent to my inquiry.

ORAL HISTORY----I do not know the group/squadron in which Dad served; an uncle recalls that it was based in Norfolk, likely near Norwich. Family oral history (subject to memory and other faults) reports that Dad flew approximately 40 flights over Nazi territory, volunteered for and flew five more, was shot down once over Holland, and was rescued with his crew by the underground and transported safely back to England.

ASSISTANCE----Any direction you can provide from your expertise would be appreciated.
