MYSELF AND MY SON FREDERICK ENJOYED VISITING THE WEB SITE. I AM EXTREMELY PROUD OF ALL WHO DEDICATED THEIR TIME AND THEIR LIVES TO ENSURE THAT I AND MY FAMILY ENJOY THE FREEDOM WE HAVE TODAY. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT SOME PEOPLE DO NOT TAKE THE TIME NOR SHOW THE RESPECT THAT THEY SHOULD FOR YOU BRAVE SOULS. AGAIN, I AM PROUD OF THOSE WHO SERVE OR SERVED IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY TO ENJOY THE FREEDOM WE HAVE. THEIR ARE MANY OUT THERE WHO APPRECIATE THE PRICE THAT WAS PAID. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.

I was unable to get a connection to the webmaster. This is a truly excellent website.

I have a great deal of info on Happy Warrior B-17G #43-39163. 4 crewmen lost their lives. Spatz broke his neck and died in his parachute landing. It would appear that Frauenholtz's parachute didn't open. Pikula was probably killed by civilians. Lyford's remains were never found but it is most likely that he too was killed by civilians. The remains of Frauenholtz, Spatz and Pikula were located and returned to American control on 30 July 1946. Guns, props, and other items from this plane remain in Parchim today.

Some of the crew were on national TV on 05 November 1953 in an episode of "Place That Face." They were surpised to be reunited with the Luftwaffe sargeant that protected them from angry civilians during their transport to POW camp.

There is a famous series of photos showing Happy Warrior as it began to fall out of formation after having been hit by ordinance from a leading bomber.

The pilot, Walt Center escaped the plane by going out the pilot's side window!

My grandfather was a navigator for the 833rd Bomb Squadron. I enjoyed seeing a picture of him with the other guys in his crew.
