We live at Rectory Cottages, Great Waldingfield and have just found a photo on the website of the field in front of our house, used by 833rd. We know that our house was used by Officers during the war and would be very interested to find out the names of these Officers. The site included the cinema and latrines with a large beech tree in the centre. Our neighbour, Vic Abbott lived in the village at this time as a teenage boy and he has a letter from Sgt Robert E. Wayman - ASN 31075837 - and wonders if you have any information about him. We are really excited to find this site to enable us to discover what happened to our area during the war. Thank-you for providing so much information.

The text below the picture #92 of the Ding Dong Daddy from Dixie in the 486th has a couple of errors in it. The text staes that it was mission #32 the final mission to Stuart Germany. The final mission was #34 and it was to Stuttgart Germany on September 13, 1944 at 07:45 am. Mission number 32 was to Brest France on September 3rd 1944. Lt Loyd Stuart, my father was pilot.

I found your site when searching out information on my fathers bomber group. He was a pilot of B-17s and B-24s. He was in the 835th bommbardment squadron and the 486th bombardment group.

Flying was his life, he came back from world war 2 and flew for Pan America airways his whole career.

It was great to see some information about the men he flew with when he served.

Thank you for your efforts. I have his medals, his service records, and it is good to see the sacrifices and service of thes great people remembered.

Thanks again

My Grandfather is Eugene H. Kirkendall. He was like a father to me. He passed away Dec. 5, 1997. In Strobies Crew picture he is not named under the picture, he is the "unknown". He was a great man whom I admired very much. If anyone knew him please write me. I miss him a lot. thank you

My father, who passed away on March 3, 1999, was a navigator in the 832nd in R.L Clinard's crew. If anyone is interested, I have a lot of the original papers from his assignments, crew photo, mission list, etc. He was very proud of the role he played in liberating Europe, and toward the end of his life had made contact with several of his crew that were still alive. This website (and others like it) provide a unique chance for the relatives of these brave airmen to more fully appreciate the dangerous circumstances these young officers and enlisted men faced in WWII.

This is a great site for WWII history buffs. By the way, you misspelled "Tucson" in the caption of the picture on your home page. Do you know where on Web I can go to get more information about bomber crew training at Davis-Monthan during the war?

Enjoyed your site. I am a fan of the artist Phil Brinkman who did some of your nose art. (I wonder if "The History of Flight" is still at Davis-Monthan.) I am also a fan of the B-24. My first cousin, 1lt. Glenn Hoffman, was KIA on a raid 7/21/44. He was a navigator in the 705th Squadron, 446th Group.

My brother, 2nd Lt. Joseph Bukofsky was a navagator assigned to the 486 bomber group. I am seeking any information regarding his B17-G and his crew or any related information. He passed away and Joe never talked about this period of his life.

RE: Lt. Frederick VEAL crew March 30,1945 mission to HAMBURG,Germany...My dad ( Sgt. John J.O'Leary WG,100th BG,349th Sqdn,on the W.Griswold "Gris" Smith crew) saw the Lt. Veal ship go down, reported on that day many years ago; ...Yellow Tailed Group..."one ship down, two chutes opened"...THANKS to your website,I now know what happened to that crew, and their names! With seven of the crew buried in the American Cemetery in Cambridge,UK..(wish I knew this when I visited there Sept-Oct 2002 would have looked for the airmen)...If the two surviving POW airmen Lt. Don H. Johns and Sgt.Robert A. Herman are still walking the Earth I would appreciate their contact info. Regardless Thanks again for your website and more importantly that's to the men of the 486th Bomb Group (H) for your service with the 8th USAAF over the skies of Europe in WWII...
