I enjoyed browsing the site but my interest was in finding info on Lt H. H White of Ellingford's Crew. He is my grand mothers sisters son. I lived in Oxford, N. C. during WW II & remember Lt Henry Hobgood White coming hmome on leave. We follow the war & I vaguely remember in Dec 1944 everyone being very sad because Lt White had been killed in action. I got interested in genalogy a couple of years ago, so I started trying to track down some of my realitives. Since Lt H. H. White was my second cousin I became interested in finding out what BG & Squadron he flew with. Does any of the crew remember him? I would greatly appreciate someone contacting me with any info about Lt H. H. White. Thank you Bob Taylor Maj ret USA
What a great site!! I was hoping any one out there might remember Fred J. Dunbar or his crew? I would love to hear from any of the crew or from any one who remembers them. My wife and I are in a WWII living history group that tours the state of CA. We are a part of a group that puts on USO type shows. The Air Corps uniform I wear is marked "Fred Dunbar". I would be interested to know if it is the same Fred J. Dunbar that flew with the 486th BG? This has to be one of the nicest, informative and detailed sites I have ever come across. Outstanding!! Would like to see rosters of ground support personnel.I was a Sgt crew chief in the 832nd armament, but I have yet to see any real stories about them in the news It's as if we didn't exist.I enjoy reading about the exploits of the combat crews but remember we were there too.please don't interpret this as a crybaby article, because I consider all of you as my personal heroes and am deeply proud of the whole group. Sincerely,John Plawischak
My Dad was a B17 crewman in England. I have his jacket patch and wings but I don't know the bomb group or plan name. Is there anyone who can help me figure that out. The patch has the motto "Impossible? Can Do" on it and there is a picture of beaver holding a B17 in one hand and a Wrench in the other. He is sitting what looks like a propeller (two crossed 8) My Dad had a tatoo with the eights too. I think that was for the 8th Air Force but I dont know for sure.
Thanks if anyone can help. Patrick Egan 805-696-6844
Just surfing information on the 8th. I was born on Westover AFB in Chicopee, and my Father was is a Vietnam Veteran.
I am looking for information on my brother, Lt. peter J. Block, who was killed Feb 18, 1944. He was with the 735 sq. contact Henry Block 950 East 5th St. Brooklyn NY 11230-2110
I am doing research on #337988, The BTO, assigned 835BS on 14-7-44 and then transferred to the 324BS/91BG on 22-7-44. My uncles crew was assigned to this a/c with the 324th. Do any of the 486BG members have any info as to any missions she may have flown when it was with the 835th for this short time? My uncles pilot made a note in his diary that the plane had already beemn named the BTO when they got it.I assumed that 835th personnel had done this. I would appreciate any info from your members as to this. BTO crashed landed in Belguim on Jan 10, 45 after flak damage from Cologne target. Thanks for any help.
